Poet of the Stage Space - František Tröster

Obecní dům / May 16 – September 2

The name of world famous stage designer František Tröster (1904 -1968) has been written into the pages of art history primarily because of his work with avant-garde directors (ie. J. Frejka) and also as the creator of an unconventional perspective of a newly created discipline that was apparent in the field of Scenography during the 1920´s and 30´s. He was the founder of the first Department of Scenography that he ran until his death in 1968. He belongs to the most famous generation of Czech scenographers who not only laid the foundations for Czech as well as world Scenography.

CHRUDIM

The Kingdom of Puppets Theatre (Umělecké scény Říše loutek) is one of the oldest amateur puppet theatre companies in the Czech Republic, and is known all over the world as the home of the UNIMA organization of puppeteers (founded on this stage in 1929). The theatre recently opened a new exhibit in the Prague City Museum entitled Puppet Kingdom of Bohumír Koubek (Říše loutek Bohumíra Koubka) commemorating the 75th birthday of Bohumír Koubek, academic sculptor and one of the members of the famous Kingdom of Puppets Theatre Company. The balanced exhibition focuses on the puppets he created specifically for the Kingdom of Puppets in Prague, where he became a member in 1947 (from 1957 to 1971, he was the artistic director of the company), and includes his designs used for the logo and posters of UNIMA.
