Guests from Denmark, Finland, France, Croatia, Iran, Italy, Lithuania, Hungary, Germany, Poland, Austria, Slovenia and the USA visited the Czech Theatre Showcase for foreign guests in 2010; they had the possibility to see 19 Czech stagings during 7 days.
Štěpán Pácl is a representative of the youngest generation of Czech directors. He works for chamber and big stages in the whole republic and his style of directing is significant for thorough reading of the text and precise directing of actors.
Summer festivals - Dance for schools - Dance Reviews
6th Znojmo Music Festival that took place from 9th to 25th July. Every year is thematic; English Baroque music and its leading representatives Henry Purcell and Georg Fridrich Händel were the topic for this year.
The opera ensemble of the National Theatre in Prague prepared an anticipated and discussed premiere for the very end of the season Leading American director Robert Wilson staged Leoš Janáček's opera Káťa Kabanová.
Two works by composer Gioacchino Rossini appeared at the end of the season on Czech or – to be more specific – Moravian opera stages.
Spitfire Company cannot be overlooked on the map of theatre Prague. Its Untouchables draw from Virginia Woolf.
Successful ensemble Farm in the Cave with art director Viliam Dočolomanský is famous for its thorough preparation of their stagings – i.e. long quests to collect material in the field. Theatermakers from Farm recently went to South America to gather authentic material for their new temperament motion-dance staging called simply Divadlo/Theatre (premiere 10th February 2010).
The 12th Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space will take place from June 16th to June 26th, 2011 in Prague.
New publications by the Arts and Theatre Institute
One of the primary missions of the Arts and Theatre Institute is to promote Czech culture abroad. Departments at the ATI, such as the International Cooperation and External Relations Department, or the Publication Department, publish various materials that introduce Czech theatre today and in a historical context to the public abroad.
