Brel - Vysockij - Kryl / Solo for Three

About the Production: Three singing poets, three singular artists, three human beings. Three different cultures, personalities, destinies. Although differing in language, musical utterance and the poetry of the lyrics, many more aspects unite them than divide them. The dance theatre piece, subtitled Solo for Three, is not a purely narrative story. It rather concerns images interwoven into a kind of bizarre mosaic that is a "flashback" of someone possibly named Jacques, maybe Vladimir or perhaps even Karel¼ This "someone" contains within himself fragments of all three. In the sense of the eternal celebration of life, irreconcilability with wickedness, evil and futility, specific humour, boundless grief and inevitable solitude. In the spirit of the unbridled internal energy that can generate something so novel and original, yet something that at the same time enervates and kills.

About the Company: The National Theatre was founded in 1883 as a three-ensemble theatre (drama, opera, ballet). Since that time, its ballet ensemble has played an important role in the development of Czech ballet art as the largest ensemble with the best dancers in the Czech Republic. The ensemble has 65 dancers and over the past four years has been headed by the leading Czech choreographer and dancer Petr Zuska. The repertoire of the National Theatre Ballet comprises classical, neoclassical and modern works. Since its foundation, the Ballet of the National Theatre has performed in more than 60 countries worldwide. Currently, it is considered one of the most artistically interesting ensembles in the Czech Republic.
