The detailed program will be announced in mid February, but we already would like to give you some tips of what to see during those four days in Riga.
The Latvian Showcase will feature the latest productions of Alvis Hermanis at the New Riga Theatre – one of the premieres of this season and a hit of the last season “Grandfather”, which got the Award as the Best Latvian performance 2008/2009.
Latvian National Theatre will present a new production of well known Russian director Kirill Serebrennikov – “Dead Souls” by Nikolai Gogol, and the latest productions of Viesturs Kairiss – Jokum Rohde’s “Pinocchio's Ashes” and Odon von Horvath’s “Kasimir and Karoline”.
The program will include also several productions of the younger generation of Latvian theatre makers – a site specific school drama about the teenage loneliness and cruelty “The Battle at…” taking place in a real school environment (director Martins Eihe), “…Tell Me about…” by Inese Micule who has received the Debut of 2008/09 award, and the “New Grandpa’s Show” by the object theatre umka.lv among others.
The dance scene will be represented with the “Mannersache” – collaboration between Latvian dancers and Slovenian choreographer Branko Potocan, and Olga Zitlukhina’s collaboration with Latvian National Opera ballet dancers.
Translation into English will be provided to the majority of the performances.
We will also offer an introduction on the current situation and context of Latvian theatre and organize meetings and discussions with theatre makers and critics.
